Impermanence

Class: Perception & Translation, Foundations / 2020 to ongoing

Students journal about experiences they choose to accomplish during the week- they can be short- eating a breath mint, or long- going on a trip-, simple - taking a nap- or life altering- cutting their hair. They then choose one of these ephemeral experiences to translate into a tangible drawing. Artwork that challenges the authority of visual perception are highlighted in an examination of essays and art work within Bowdoin’s exhibition Second Sight: The Paradox of Vision in Contemporary Art, which is aptly named after W.E.B DuBois’ same-named theory.
